Are you looking forwad to the new galaxy – Samsung Galaxy S3?

Samsung Galaxy S3 was disclosed a few days ago, with different expectations and rumors and the public wonder if Samsung can bring another trend to smart phone market and bring another success to Samsung itself both in profit and reputation?

And now, we know the answer clearly-“No”.

(Check how to rip encrypted DVD to videos for playback on Samsung Galaxy S3 easily! With Any DVD Cloner Platinum, you can quick and enjoy your movies with any portable devices on the go without limits!)

First of all, the appearance is not as lovely and attractive as that of S2. That disappoints those who are looking forward to the new smart phone for such as long time. The HOME button is too low and not easy to hold the handset well, easy to drop, that is not good. With a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED screen (yes, no “PLUS” here, it is another point to make S3 not as good as S2), Samsung Galaxy S3 looks much bigger than S2 (with a 4.3-inch HD Super AMOLED Plus screen).

4.3 is good enough, why bigger? For better enjoyment when watch videos on the go? Surf online to read news on the go easily? Don’t 4.3 is big enough? “Enough” is not enough in current android smart phone market. Samsung has Galaxy Note (5.3-inch)  and it is not listed in Cell phone column but as an independent term in Samsung official website under products category, that is interesting.

Secondly, S3 has blue version and white version(pebble blue and marble white), no black – the forever color trend again. Do you think it is a good idea? Anyway, the blue one is quite pretty. Not sure blue or white are good for male users.

Thirdly, no hardware surprise. I think Samsung focuses on software and good using experience more than before. Is that really important? A bigger screen is not enough. Faster, higher resolution are forever attraction. Do you think so?

Let’s see the full specs of Samsung Galaxy S3:

Good:

  • Enormous, gorgeous 4.8-inch 720p screen
  • Slick, lightweight design
  • Quad-core processor
  • Powerful Android operating system

Bad:

  • TouchWiz interface has been occasionally confusing in the past
  • Likely to be very expensive

Even though S3 does not attractive much, its good features are plenty enough to make itself in the front position in android pack.  S3 may not surprise the public with the features, compared to other smartphones in current market? They are good enough. So, it would not be a problem for S3 to be listed in the top smartphone list.

Watching DVD Movies on Samsung Galaxy S2 or Samsung Galaxy Note

You know I am impressed very much by the Samsung Galaxy S2 and I wrote a few posts about this amazing smartphone in 2011 (oh~~~2012 now, and I did not say Happy new year to you yet……Sorry about that! Happy New Year and Hope you have a fantastic 2012 !).

In my opinion, I prefer to galaxy S2 than iphone 4 or iphone 4s. Why?

The bigger and outstanding screen is one of the reason and I like to say another important reason is that : samsung released pink version for galaxy s2. OMG and pink is the perfect color for most of female and no doubt that Samsung offers a color to female market and girls like to offer their money to samsung by return. What can be better than win-win?

BUT, yes, there is always a “but” when I said a paragraph of positive words, but if the degree of the pink of the phone can be purer.

At the end of 2011, Samsung also released another unbelievable smartphone – Samsung Galaxy Note. I am not sure if there is anyone like to call it a tablet… but the manufacturer said it is a smartphone so we just call it smartphone.  I also wrote a post about it at that time. With a 5.3-inch screen, it would be a shame if you do not watch your favorite movies on it or record some videos in your daily life, making video calls, etc. Just try your best to make full use of the big screen and it worth. We know, the price can be very high when the product is so attractive.

Both Samsung Galaxy S2 and Samsung Galaxy Note have large screen size for video enjoyment. You just need to spend sometime ripping your favorite DVD movies to video formats like MP4, then transfer the video file to your samsung smartphone with your use cable and then you can enjoy your DVD movies on the move.

Samsung Galaxy S2 VS iPhone 4

Now when we talk about smartphones, iphone 4 and android phones will come to our minds. The most popular ones of them should be iphone 4 and Samsung Galaxy S2 recently.

They are two strong competitors in the market. Apple was boasting that iphone 4 as the thinnest phone in the world until Samsung released Galaxy S2.

The competition not ends there, it continues with the other features too.

With the release of Samsung Galaxy S2, the wait for iPhone 5 has taken a new turn. Apple opened its 100th store in HK on 24th September. Is Apple ready to release its iphone 5 soon? Now only rumors can tell but not confirmed yet. Since iphone 5 and more advanced smarrphone is not released by Samsung yet. We may just forget them and compare the features of current hottest smartphones on the market.

Thinnest phone:

Galaxy S II (or Galaxy S2) is the thinnest phone to date, measuring only 8.49 mm. It is much faster and gives better viewing experience than its predecessor Galaxy S.

Specs:

4.3″ WVGA Super AMOLED plus touch screen, Exynos chipset with 1.2 GHz dual core Cortex A9 CPU and ARM Mali-400 MP GPU, 8 megapixels camera with LED flash, touch focus and 1080p@30fps HD video recording, 2 megapixels front facing camera for video calling, 1GB RAM, 16 GB internal memory expandable with microSD card, Bluetooth 3.0 support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, HDMI out, DLNA certified, Adobe Flash Player 10.1, mobile hotspot capability and runs Android’s latest OS Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread).

iPhone 4

Stylish & Innovative design

The very fact that new smartphones are being compared with Apple iPhone 4 that was launched in the middle of 2010 speaks volumes of the abilities of this amazing smartphone by Apple. It is a tribute to the innovative designing and outstanding features of iPhone 4. The 3.5 inches display in iPhone4 is not huge but comfortable enough to read everything because it is extremely bright with a resolution of 960 x 640 pixels. The touchscreen is highly sensitive and scratch resistant. The phone works very smoothly with a fast processor that is 1GHz Apple A4. The operating system is iOS 4 that is considered to be the best in the business. Web browsing on Safari is a pleasant experience and the user has the liberty to download thousands of apps from Apple’s app store. Emailing is fun with this smartphone as there is a full QWERTY virtual keyboard for fast typing. iPhone 4 is Facebook compatible to stay connected with friends with a single touch.

The iPhone 4 is one of the slimmest smartphone (Galaxy S II has beaten iPhone’s record). It boasts about its 3.5 inches LED backlit Retina display with higher resolution of 960×640 pixels, 512 MB eDRAM, internal memory options of 16 or 32 GB and dual camera, 5 megapixel 5x digital zoom rear camera with LED flash and 0.3 megapixel camera for video calling. The remarkable feature of the iPhone devices is the operating system iOS 4.2.1 and the Safari web browser. It is now upgradeable to iOS 4.3 that has included many new features, one such is the hotspot capability. The new iOS will be big boost to iPhones.

Specs:

The smartphone is available in black and white colors in candy bar form. It has dimensions of 15.2 x 48.6 x 9.3 mm and weighs just 137g. For connectivity, there is Bluetooth v2.1+EDR and the phone has Wi-Fi 802.1b/g/n at 2.4 GHz. iPhone 4s front and back glass design though acclaimed for its beauty had criticism of cracking when dropped. To overcome the criticism of display fragility, Apple has given a solution with vibrant color bumpers. It comes in six colors: white, black, blue, green, orange or pink.

The additional feature in the CDMA iPhone 4 compared to GSM iPhone 4 is the mobile hotspot capability, where you can connect up to 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices. This feature is now available in GSM model too with the upgrade to iOS 4.3. iPhone 4 CDMA model is available in US with Verizon for $200 (16 GB) and $ 300 (32 GB) on new 2 year contract. And a data plan is also required for web based applications. The data plan starts at $20 monthly access (2GB allowance).

Also comes with a front-facing 2MP camera and 1080p@30fps video.

Our Views on Camera: Have to say the Samsung Galaxy S2 wins this one, They are both good but the feel, use and picture quality of the Galaxy S2 camera is better.

Memory: down to personal preference
The Apple iPhone 4 only goes up to 32GB storage max, and does not have an SD card slot. However, you can get the iPhone 4 in either 16GB or 32GB capacities. The Samsung Galaxy S2 has 16GB but does come with an SD card slot for up to 32GB cards.

Our Views on Memory: This is a hard one really, even though the Samsung Galaxy S2 comes with 16GB built-in and can house up to 32GB cards, we still would choose the iPhone 4 over the Galaxy S because the more memory you take up the more you have a chance of slowing up your phone. This one is down to personal preference.

Processor: Samsung Galaxy S2 wins

The iPhone 4 is fitted with a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, PowerVR SGX535GPU, Apple A4 chipset, and the Samsung Galaxy S2 features a Dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A9 proccessor, Mali-400MP GPU, Orion chipset. iPhone 4 has 512MB of RAM and the Galaxy S2 has 1GB of RAM.

Operating System (OS): personal preference

The iPhone 4 OS is more stable and established and more user friendly, we cannot count out the fact that the Galaxy S2 runs on Android, the Android OS did win as the leading operating system in such a short period of time.

Our Views on OS: Personally we choose the iPhone 4 and its iOS, but yet again this is personal preference. We do use Android OS as well as iOS, but we prefer iPhone. Sorry Android lovers, in time we may change our minds.

Battery Life: Samsung Galaxy S2 wins

The iPhone 4 has a Li-Po 1420mAh battery offering up to 300 standby hours using 2G and up to 300 standby hours using 3G, you will get up to 14 talk time hours using 2G and up to 7 hours talk time using 3G. The Galaxy S2 has a, Li-Ion 1650 mAh battery offering up to 710 standby time using 2G, up to 610 standby time using 3G, you will get up to 18 hours 20 minutes talk time using 2G and up to 8 hours 40 minutes using 3G.

Overall Summary

The Apple iPhone 4 has been out a while now and it has already proved to customers it is a very powerful smartphone, it is very easy to use and feels fantastic. However, the Samsung Galaxy S2 has not been on the market for long and sales have already surpassed expectations. If we look at the specs above the Galaxy S2 is the clear winner and when you consider this phone is a little cheaper to buy than the iPhone 4.

If we had to put our heads on the line we would have to choose the Samsung Galaxy S2 over the iPhone, Apple really and we mean REALLY needs to go to the drawing board and release a much superior iPhone 5, iphone 4S, whatever you want to call it. Please let us know what smartphone you would choose above.

The iPhone 5 is likely to have dual-core, and feature improvements in nearly every notable department. The iPhone is an excellent device, and was designed with the pursuit of perfection in mind. Really though, the Samsung Galaxy S II beats it in nearly every departments that count. The Galaxy S II is lighter, thinner, significantly more powerful, and light years ahead of the iPhone 4 on taking pictures and video, and has the most technologically sophisticated 4.3 inch screen on the market. Delicious.

At the end of the day, we can reflect on all of this as a statement from Samsung. They are obviously very serious about being the best manufactuer/OEM of mobile tech out there. This latest flagship smartphone from Samsung is a mobile maven, in every way that matters. Incredible power, amazing connectivity, svelte form factor, and fantastic media. Samsung has obviously put everything it has into this one, and – on paper – it shows. It is amazing how far we have come, and we can’t wait to get one. Considering how good the original Galaxy S was, we expect it to deliver in every way we have listed above.

Samsung Galaxy S 2 Review – Light Enough!

Light and Bright:

The S 2 is so light, You won’t feel the S 2 weighing you down once it’s ensconced in your pockets or handbag While the Galaxy S2 will certainly fit into the tightest jeans pocket, the compromise is build quality – the body just feels cheap and uninspiring. Things don’t improve when you remove the wafer thin back to insert a sim – we’d be seriously worried about snapping it.

Blu-ray ripping tool-Any Blu-ray Ripper

Controls are limited to volume on one side, power on the other, MHL port, which serves a dual purpose of charging via USB and outputting to HDMI, and a 3.5mm jack on the top, Samsung includes a range of streaming options including DLNA.

Display: 4.3 inches is not considered to be a big screen nowadays. The S 2’s display doesn’t have the highest of resolutions — 480×800-pixel panel, so it’s not as pin-sharp as the iPhone 4’s 640×960-pixel screen (if we have to compare it with iphone 4, also can be compared with the recent hot HTC android phones, too).

But this screen isn’t blurry at all — text looks very clear, and we didn’t spot any irritating fuzziness around icons. The S 2 uses Super AMOLED Plus display tech, which, despite being a meaningless string of letters, actually makes for a really impressive screen.

In direct sunlight, making out on-screen action is tricky, but this is true of every smart phone, tablet and laptop. The S 2’s brightness means it’s easier to see in sunny conditions than many rival phones, but this isn’t the mobile to finally free us from the sun’s oppressive glare.

As an added bonus, the S 2’s display floats spookily close to the top of the glass front of the phone, which lends it an extremely classy veneer. It’s something we also appreciated on the oozing-with-class Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc. The viewing angle is very wide, so you’ll be able to appreciate every colour and hue even if you’re not looking at the screen dead-on.

Android

Running Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread), you get seven home screens customisable with widgets and shortcuts. Swipe down to quickly activate WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and Auto Rotation settings. Phone, Contact, Messaging and Application settings along the bottom are static when you are browsing the home screens. Like other Android phones, press down to customized with Shortcuts, Folders, Wallpaper and numerous Samsung widgets.

The iconography is still somewhat cartoonish, and we still can’t figure why Samsung decided to make the left-most home screen pane the default. Samsung’s widgets – for news, weather, calendar, bookmarks, various clocks, social networking and a task manager, among others – are also more colorful than, say, those HTC uses in Sense, but there’s a good range on offer and we prefer Samsung’s system for choosing from them.

Something we wish Samsung had left well alone was the standard Gingerbread keyboard. The replacement is frustrating in various minor ways: we had problems with it recognizing faster text-entry, particularly missing space bar taps, while the auto-prediction and auto-correction aren’t as accurate as Android’s native system.

Auto-capitalization is inconsistent – sometimes “i” doesn’t get automatically changed to “I” – as is apostrophe entry, so you end up with “im” rather than “I’m” most of the time. Swype is preinstalled, though not the default, and of course there are multiple alternative keyboards to choose from in the Android Market, so it’s certainly not a deal breaker.

Samsung’s other main change is under the “Motion” heading in the settings page, using the Galaxy S II’s accelerometer to control various functionality. You can have the phone mute incoming calls and sounds by turning it face down, or zoom in and out of webpages or images by touching two fingers to the screen and tilting the whole thing back or forward. We had mixed results with the latter, with our movements sometimes not being recognized. It’s also very linear: you can’t angle the phone as you tilt it, to shift the portion of the screen which you zoom in on.

Camera and multimedia: With its Super AMOLED Plus display and high-resolution cameras, the Galaxy S II obviously has plenty of multimedia potential. The main camera, at 8-megapixels, is a welcome step up from the 5-megapixel example in the original Galaxy S; the front-facing camera is, at 2-megapixels, at the top end for what we’ve seen studding the bezels of recent smartphones. In contrast, the iPhone 4 and HTC’s recent line-up offer mere VGA resolution. Still, it’s good enough for voice calling and the occasional vanity snap, but not really anything more thanks to the fixed-focus lens.
